Adverb & Filler Word Highlighter

Identify weak adverbs, filler words, and hedging language that dilute your writing impact.

How it works

This tool scans your text for three categories of words and phrases that can weaken prose, then highlights them in context so you can decide which to keep, cut, or strengthen.

  • Weak adverbs — words like very, really, extremely, basically, and literally. These intensifiers often add bulk without adding meaning. Instead of "very fast", consider "swift" or "rapid".
  • Filler words — words like just, actually, stuff, things, and quite. They pad sentences without contributing substance. Removing them usually makes prose tighter and more direct.
  • Hedging language — phrases like sort of, kind of, I think, it seems, and perhaps. While sometimes necessary for nuance, overuse signals uncertainty and weakens authority.

The density score shows what percentage of your words are flagged issues. Under 3% is clean; 3–8% is moderate; above 8% suggests significant room for tightening. All analysis runs entirely in your browser — no data is sent to any server.
